Alliance Night 2000: A Resounding Success

The Yoruba Alliance Awards for Excellence in Community Service ceremony, a.k.a Alliance Night, was held on Saturday, November 18, 2000, at the grand and gorgeous Washington Times Ballroom in Washington, D. C.

The Awards ceremony was begun in 1998.  Its main purpose is "to recognize people with immense talents, strong will and dedication to excellence, who have used their good offices to help others in our community, without looking forward to a reward."  In 1998, Dr. Olanrewaju Adeyiga, Mr. Joseph Aina, and Dr. (Rev.) Frederick Ogunfiditimi received this award.  The 1999 recipients were Mrs. Bola Sotomi-Kuti, Dr. Godwin Oyewole, and Alhaji Yusuff Olaleye.

The Y2K Awards, with the usual pomp and pageantry, saw the recognition of Dr. Adegbola Olarinde, Dr. Oluremi Ilupeju and Dr. Olabisi Jagun, three distinguished individuals who have excelled in their chosen professions and have contributed enormously to our community.   These individuals, in the words of the Yoruba Alliance’s past Chairman, Mr. Zac Shodiya, "have gone above and beyond (the call of duty) to make Yoruba and Nigerian communities so proud.  They have exemplified what is good about our community.
